Wells Fargo settlements

Wells Fargo has settled two consumer and employee cases we track, and neither required a claim form — both paid automatically from the bank's own records. The $84 million settlement resolved claims that the bank used dividends on the retirement plan's preferred stock to reduce its own 401(k) matching contributions, so it pays roughly 425,000 current and former plan participants pro rata. The $33 million settlement covered customers charged for free trials that converted into recurring billing. If a Wells Fargo check arrived unexpectedly, one of these two is the likely explanation.

The claim window has closed for these, but the questions have not: each page explains what the settlement paid, when checks went out, and how to tell a real payout notice from a scam.
