Telmate data breach settlement: claims due December 21
Last updated: October 2, 2026
Telmate's $4.225 million data-breach settlement offers eligible U.S. individuals an equal share of remaining cash and up to $5,000 for documented, unreimbursed losses tied to the August 2020 incident. You can request either or both benefits on one claim. Submit online or mail a claim postmarked by December 21, 2026; no fixed cash-share estimate is available.
Telmate provides communications services for incarcerated people and their families, including GettingOut. The class covers affected personal information, so service use alone does not establish eligibility. Telmate denies wrongdoing. Review and sign the official claim yourself; ClaimBee explains the process and does not promise to sign or file it on your behalf.

Who qualifies
- You are an individual within the United States whose personal information was affected by Telmate's security incident on approximately August 13, 2020. The class is not limited to incarcerated people, and financial loss is not required for the equal cash-share option.
- Find the settlement notice containing your Class Member ID. Both the online entry and paper form request it. Contact Kroll at 833-453-3721 if you cannot find your ID or need help confirming membership; using a Telmate service alone does not prove inclusion.
- Excluded are the presiding judge and her family; Telmate, its parents, subsidiaries, predecessors, successors and related controlled entities, and their current or former officers and directors; timely valid opt-outs; and successors or assigns of excluded people.
- Loss reimbursement requires third-party documentation and losses more likely than not attributable to this incident. Do not claim costs already reimbursed by another party. Submit only one claim per class member and sign the affirmation.
How to file a Telmate data-breach claim
- 1
Locate your Class Member ID
Use the ID from your notice to begin at the official claim entry. If it is missing, call Kroll at 833-453-3721. Review the official notice and class definition before claiming.
- 2
Choose cash, loss reimbursement or both
Request the equal cash share, documented losses up to $5,000, or both on one form. For losses, give dates, amounts and descriptions and attach third-party records such as receipts or correspondence. A personal statement alone is not sufficient, though it may explain supporting records.
- 3

Frequently asked questions
Who qualifies for the Telmate data-breach settlement?
The Telmate class includes individuals within the United States whose personal information was affected by the security incident around August 13, 2020, subject to the official exclusions. Using GettingOut or another Telmate service alone does not establish membership. Check your notice or contact Kroll for help.
Does everyone receive $5,000 from Telmate?
No. $5,000 is the cap for qualifying, documented, unreimbursed losses tied to the Telmate incident. It is not a guaranteed award. The separate equal cash-share benefit has no fixed published amount and depends on remaining funds and valid claims.
Can I claim both Telmate cash and documented losses?
Yes. An eligible Telmate member may request either or both benefits on one claim. Administration, approved fees and costs, the service award and approved losses are paid before the remaining funds are divided among valid cash-share claimants.
What proof does the Telmate claim require?
Telmate loss claims need third-party documentation such as receipts, correspondence or other supporting records. A personal statement alone is insufficient. The equal cash-share option does not require proof of a loss, but membership verification, claim details and a signed affirmation still apply.
What is the Telmate claim deadline?
Submit the Telmate claim online or mail it postmarked by December 21, 2026. Use your Class Member ID and submit only one claim per member. Keep a copy and confirmation or mailing record.
What if I lost my Telmate Class Member ID?
The Telmate online entry and paper form request the Class Member ID from your notice. Contact Kroll Settlement Administration at 833-453-3721 for help. Do not assume the paper form bypasses membership verification.
When will Telmate settlement payments arrive?
No fixed payment arrival date is confirmed. A September 14, 2026 court order moved the Telmate final approval hearing to February 12, 2027. Older documents show outdated hearing dates. Payments depend on final approval and resolution of appeals; consult the current official FAQ and court docket.
