ECSI data breach settlement: claim by December 21

Last updated: October 8, 2026

The $6.5 million ECSI data breach settlement offers eligible U.S. residents a choice: up to $5,000 for documented, unreimbursed losses or an alternative cash payment estimated at about $100. The alternative amount can increase or decrease. Submit a claim online or mail it postmarked by December 21, 2026.

Educational Computer Systems, Inc. is the company involved in the website cyberattack between October 29, 2023 and February 12, 2024. Eligibility requires that your personal information was potentially accessed in that incident, subject to exclusions. ECSI denies wrongdoing; payments require approval of both the settlement and your claim.

Who qualifies

  • You reside in the United States and your personal information was potentially accessed in the criminal cyberattack on ECSI's website between October 29, 2023 and February 12, 2024. ECSI service use alone does not establish class membership; ask the administrator if you are unsure.
  • The assigned judge, the judge's staff and immediate family, people convicted of initiating or helping the incident or who pleaded no contest to such charges, and people who validly opt out are excluded.
  • For loss reimbursement, show actual, unreimbursed losses more likely than not caused by the incident. The current form covers qualifying losses from October 29, 2023 through December 21, 2026. Provide reasonable supporting records; self-prepared receipts or notes alone are insufficient.
  • Alternatively, request the variable cash payment without documenting a financial loss. You must still qualify, complete the claim and sign its truthful certification. The alternative cash and documented-loss options cannot be combined.

How to file an ECSI data settlement claim

  1. 1

Confirm your eligibility and find your notice

Use the official settlement website to review the class definition. Online filing requires your Notice ID and Confirmation Code. Contact the administrator at 1-877-726-4268 if you need help with eligibility or notice credentials.

  2. 2

    Choose one cash option

Request reimbursement up to $5,000 with records supporting unreimbursed incident-related losses, or select the alternative cash payment. Its approximately $100 estimate is not guaranteed: it is an equal share of funds remaining after deductions and approved loss payments.

  3. 3

    Review, sign and submit

Complete the applicable sections, attach required loss records and sign the certification under penalty of perjury. Submit online by December 21, 2026, or mail the form and records postmarked by December 21 to ECSI Security Incident Settlement Administrator, ATTN: Claim Forms, 1650 Arch Street, Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103.

  4. 4

Frequently asked questions

Is the ECSI settlement payment guaranteed to be $100?

No. The ECSI alternative cash payment is estimated at approximately $100, but may increase or decrease. After settlement deductions and approved loss reimbursements, the remaining money is divided equally among approved alternative-cash claimants.

Can I receive $5,000 and the ECSI alternative payment?

No. ECSI class members choose either documented-loss reimbursement up to $5,000 or the alternative cash payment. A loss award cannot exceed the qualifying loss proven, and submitting a claim does not guarantee approval.

What is the ECSI data breach claim deadline?

ECSI claims must be submitted online or mailed postmarked by December 21, 2026. Complete and sign the official form and include the supporting records required for your chosen benefit.

What documents support an ECSI loss claim?

Provide reasonable records such as bank statements, receipts or invoices showing actual, unreimbursed losses more likely than not caused by the ECSI incident. The form covers qualifying losses from October 29, 2023 through December 21, 2026. Self-prepared documents alone are insufficient.

What if my ECSI Notice ID or Confirmation Code is missing?

Online ECSI filing requires the Notice ID and Confirmation Code from your settlement notice. Ask the administrator at 1-877-726-4268 for help. A downloadable paper claim is also available; every claim remains subject to eligibility verification and possible requests for additional information.

Do I need proof of financial loss for the ECSI alternative payment?

The ECSI alternative cash option does not require documentation of financial loss. You must still be a class member, submit a complete and timely claim, and sign a truthful certification. The administrator verifies claims.

When will ECSI settlement payments arrive?

ECSI payments depend on final court approval, resolution of any appeals and approval of individual claims. No fixed payment arrival date is confirmed. Check the official settlement website for court and distribution updates.
