TransUnion Bankruptcy Credit Report Settlement: Who Can Claim?
Last updated: September 8, 2026
TransUnion, the credit reporting company, agreed to an $8.31 million settlement over allegedly inaccurate bankruptcy remarks. Eligible consumers have until October 30, 2026 to claim. The administrator estimates claim payments of about $1,000 for the No Bankruptcy Group and $350 for the Aged Bankruptcy Group; actual amounts may be higher or lower.
Membership depends on the contents and date of your credit report, and a claim requires a signed certification about harm. No Bankruptcy Group members who remain in the settlement also qualify for an automatic $100 payment if approval becomes final. The settlement does not establish wrongdoing by TransUnion, which denies the allegations.

Who qualifies
- You reside in the United States or its territories, and TransUnion sold your consumer report to a third party between January 6, 2020 and January 31, 2023.
- That report contained a bankruptcy remark on a credit account but no bankruptcy record in its public-record section. There must be no government-held bankruptcy filing for you in the ten years before the report date.
- The No Bankruptcy Group has no locatable bankruptcy filing in the relevant public-record search. The Aged Bankruptcy Group has only filings older than ten years before the report. Your notice identifies your group.
- To make a valid claim, you must truthfully certify under penalty of perjury that you did not file bankruptcy in that ten-year period and that the bankruptcy information lowered your credit score or contributed to a denial of credit.
- Members excluded from the settlement receive no benefits. The deadline to request exclusion or object is October 30, 2026; read the administrator's notice for the required procedure.
How to claim your TransUnion settlement payment
- 1
Find your notice and group
Use the Claim Number and PIN on your notice to open the official claim form. If you cannot locate your notice, contact the settlement administrator at 888-279-4003 to check your details.
- 2
Review the certification before signing
The form asks about bankruptcy history and harm to your credit score or a credit denial. Select only statements that are true for you, complete the required fields, and sign. Group membership alone does not replace this certification.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the TransUnion bankruptcy settlement payment?
The administrator estimates about $1,000 for valid No Bankruptcy Group claims and $350 for valid Aged Bankruptcy Group claims. These are estimates based on expected participation; the final amounts can change.
Will I get money without filing a claim?
No Bankruptcy Group members remaining in the settlement qualify for an automatic $100 payment if approval becomes final. Aged Bankruptcy Group members must file a valid claim to receive money. A claim also lets eligible No Bankruptcy Group members seek a higher payment.
Does any bankruptcy error qualify?
No. The report must meet the January 2020–January 2023 sale window and the specific account-remark, public-record and ten-year requirements. Contact the administrator if you are unsure whether you belong to either group.
What do I need to file a TransUnion claim?
Online filing uses your notice's Claim Number and PIN. The claim form requires a signed certification about bankruptcy history and a lowered credit score or credit denial caused at least partly by the bankruptcy information.
When is the TransUnion claim deadline?
Submit online or postmark a paper claim by October 30, 2026. This is also the deadline to request exclusion or object, using the procedures in the official notice.
When will TransUnion settlement checks arrive?
No payment date is confirmed here. The final approval hearing is scheduled for December 2, 2026. Distribution depends on final approval and resolution of any appeals.
