Cash App $15 Million Security Settlement: Payout Status
Last updated: July 27, 2026
Cash App (Block) has another settlement — see all Cash App (Block) settlements.
The $15 million Cash App security settlement has been approved but has not paid out yet. The court granted final approval on March 27, 2025, and as of the administrator's own update on April 9, 2026, claim review and appeals were finished and the settlement payments would be issued to approved claims "in the coming months." No payment date has been announced. The claim deadline closed on November 18, 2024, so new claims cannot be filed.
If you have read that Cash App payments already went out in April 2025, that is incorrect. Several unofficial articles report an early-2025 distribution and an average payment of about $200; the settlement administrator's official site says distribution is still pending. Check cashappsecuritysettlement.com or call 1-866-615-9740 for the current status rather than relying on third-party summaries.
The case is Salinas, et al. v. Block, Inc. and Cash App Investing, LLC, Case No. 22-cv-04823, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Block, Inc. is the fintech company that owns Cash App. The lawsuit alleged that Block and Cash App Investing were negligent and misrepresented their security in connection with three things: a data security incident Cash App Investing disclosed in April 2022, a second incident Block disclosed in October 2023, and unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals and transfers along with how the company handled the resulting customer complaints. Block and Cash App Investing deny doing anything wrong.

Who qualifies
- The class covered current and former customers of Block, Inc. or Cash App Investing, LLC, or any of their affiliates, parents, or subsidiaries, whose personal information, Cash App account, or Cash App Investing account was accessed or obtained without authorization.
- It also covered customers who had unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers of funds to or from a Cash App account or a linked financial account, or who experienced a deficiency in how an error on the account was resolved.
- The qualifying events had to occur between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024 — August 20, 2024 was the Notice Date that closed the class period.
- Reimbursement of up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket losses required third-party documentation tracing the loss to a data security incident, an unauthorized account event, or a failed error resolution.
- Every class member could also claim up to three hours of lost time at $25 per hour, for a maximum of $75, plus documented transaction losses.
- Only claims submitted by the November 18, 2024 deadline count. That deadline was already extended once, from November 1, 2024, and late claims are no longer accepted.
Cash App settlement status — what happens now
- 1
The claim deadline closed in November 2024
Claim forms were due November 18, 2024, extended from an original date of November 1, 2024. The exclusion and objection deadlines were moved to the same date. No further claims are accepted, and the settlement website has stopped taking late forms.
- 2
The court approved the settlement in March 2025
Judge-scheduled proceedings ran through a final approval hearing on January 13, 2025, which had been moved from December 16, 2024. The court granted final approval on March 27, 2025, and the Final Approval Order is posted on the administrator's site.
- 3
Claim review is finished, but the money has not gone out
The administrator completed its review of claim-form deficiency responses and appeals, and stated in an April 9, 2026 update that settlement payments would be issued to approved claims in the coming months. Until the administrator posts a distribution notice, no Cash App settlement payments have been sent.

This is not the $12.5 million Cash App text message settlement
Two separate Cash App settlements are often confused. This one is the $15 million security settlement over data incidents and unauthorized transfers. A different case, Bottoms v. Block, resolved unwanted "Invite Friends" referral texts sent to Washington residents for $12.5 million and paid $394.36 per approved claim starting in February 2026. Filing in one had no effect on the other.
- 6
Protect the account now, since the class period has closed
The settlement only covers events through August 20, 2024. For anything after that, enable the Cash App security lock and two-factor authentication, and report unauthorized transfers to Block in writing immediately — a documented, timely dispute is what makes reimbursement possible in any future case.

Frequently asked questions
Has the Cash App settlement been paid out yet?
No. The court granted final approval on March 27, 2025, and in an update dated April 9, 2026 the settlement administrator said claim review and appeals were complete and that payments would be issued to approved claims in the coming months. No distribution date has been announced.
How much is the Cash App settlement payout?
There is no flat per-person amount. Class members could claim up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket losses supported by third-party documentation, up to three hours of lost time at $25 per hour, and documented transaction losses. Final amounts depend on the approved claims filed against the $15 million fund after fees and administration costs.
Can I still file a Cash App settlement claim?
No. The claim deadline was November 18, 2024, after being extended from November 1, 2024. Late claim forms are no longer accepted. Any website inviting you to file a Cash App claim now is not the official settlement site.
What were the Cash App data breaches?
The lawsuit concerned two disclosed incidents: one that Cash App Investing disclosed in April 2022 involving account data, and one that Block disclosed in October 2023. It also covered alleged unauthorized and fraudulent withdrawals and transfers involving Cash App accounts and linked accounts, and how Block handled the resulting complaints and error resolution.
Who is eligible for the Cash App security settlement?
Current and former Block or Cash App Investing customers whose personal information or account was accessed without authorization, or who had unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers, or a deficiency in resolving an account error, between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024 — and who filed a claim by November 18, 2024.
Why do some sites say Cash App payments started in April 2025?
Those reports are wrong. Several unofficial settlement-news sites state that electronic payments began April 10, 2025 and checks on April 20, 2025, with an average payout near $200. The settlement administrator's official site, updated April 9, 2026, says distribution to approved claims is still upcoming.
Is this the same as the $12.5 million Cash App settlement?
No. The $12.5 million settlement resolved Bottoms v. Block over unsolicited "Invite Friends" referral text messages sent to Washington residents, and paid $394.36 per approved claim from February 2026. This $15 million settlement resolves data security incidents and unauthorized account activity nationwide.
Will the settlement affect my Cash App account?
No. Participating in the settlement does not close, restrict, or change a Cash App account. Class members who did not opt out by November 18, 2024 released the legal claims covered by the settlement, but the account itself is unaffected.
