How we verify settlements

Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s, London have agreed to a $3.57 million partial settlement concerning alleged concealment of a lack of competition in the Lloyd’s insurance market. The settling syndicates are 727, 2791, 1003, 2003 and 2020. They deny the allegations.

The settlement concerns eligible individuals and entities in the United States, including its territories, who purchased or renewed direct insurance during January 1, 1997 through April 15, 2025. Reinsurance is excluded. Payments depend on covered premiums and the net settlement fund; there is no fixed payment per policyholder.

The claim deadline is October 30, 2026. The official instructions allow online submission, email, first-class mail with a timely postmark or postage-meter date, or private-carrier shipment dated by the deadline. People who already filed in the 2019 or 2023 Lloyd’s settlements do not need to resubmit; the administrator allows supplementary claims for additional covered policies.

This is Lincoln Adventures, LLC, et al. v. Those Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s, et al., No. 2:08-cv-00235, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. The fairness hearing is scheduled for October 23, 2026 at noon Eastern Time, subject to court changes. Final approval and resolution of appeals are required before payment.

Who qualifies

  • You are an individual or entity in the United States, including its territories, that purchased or renewed a direct insurance policy during January 1, 1997 through April 15, 2025 with a Lloyd’s syndicate covered by this partial settlement. The agreement defines its Defendants as syndicates 727, 2791, 1003, 2003 and 2020.
  • The policy must be direct insurance, not reinsurance. Provide information about each covered policy or renewal. If your notice or policy history involves other syndicates or an earlier settlement, ask A.B. Data to confirm how your existing claim is treated.
  • Excluded are the released defendants, defendants formerly named in the action, all Lloyd’s syndicates, valid opt-outs, and the judges presiding over the action and their immediate families.
  • The official filing page says claimants in either the 2019 or 2023 Lloyd’s settlements are not required to resubmit a claim. An additional claim involving the covered defendant for March 25, 2019 through April 15, 2025 may supplement the original claim.
  • Syndicate 2488 has not settled in this partial settlement. Participation here does not itself prevent relief from that non-settling defendant in the future, subject to any later class definition.

Frequently asked questions

How much will I receive?

The net fund is divided proportionally according to covered premiums, using available records and claimant information or reasonable estimates. Taxes and tax expenses, notice and administration, and court-approved legal fees and expenses reduce the $3.57 million settlement amount. Counsel may seek up to one-third of the amount in fees and up to $200,000 in litigation expenses. No individual amount is guaranteed.

What if my calculated payment is below $10?

The allocation plan says an initial distribution below $10 will not be paid. Any later redistribution depends on remaining funds, administrative feasibility and court-approved decisions; its minimum threshold may differ.

Do I need receipts or policy documents?

The claim form requires accurate policy, premium and broker information plus a signed certification. It does not impose a universal document attachment on every claimant, but the administrator can demand documents or more information for an initial claim, aggregation request or audit. Keep supporting records available.

Do I need to file again if I claimed in 2019 or 2023?

The official filing page says no resubmission is required for claims in those earlier Lloyd’s settlements. It allows an additional claim to supplement the original for additional covered claims from March 25, 2019 through April 15, 2025. Contact the administrator about your specific policies.

Is October 30 a receipt deadline or a postmark deadline?

For first-class mail, a timely postmark or postage-meter date with proper postage governs. For private or commercial carriers, the shipping-label date governs. Online claims count when uploaded and emailed forms when sent. All use October 30, 2026; the reviewed materials do not state an exact time or timezone. Do not rely on discretionary acceptance of late claims.

When will settlement payments arrive?

No fixed payment date is given. Distribution requires final court approval and the resolution of appeals. The October 23, 2026 fairness hearing is not a payment date and may be changed by the Court.
