Hyundai/Kia Immobilizer Vehicle Theft Settlement: Claim Up to $4,500
Last updated: July 10, 2026
Hyundai Motor America and Kia America agreed to pay $4.5 million to resolve claims that certain 2011–2022 vehicles sold without engine immobilizers were easier to steal. Eligible owners and lessees can claim up to $4,500 for a total vehicle loss, up to $2,250 for a partial loss, or up to $375 for theft-attempt expenses, and no proof is required to start a claim. The deadline to file is March 31, 2027.
This multistate immobilizer settlement follows a nationwide wave of thefts of Hyundai and Kia vehicles without immobilizers. Alongside the cash payments, the companies rolled out a free anti-theft software upgrade and a zinc-reinforced ignition cylinder protector. It is separate from earlier related settlements, including a $145 million settlement in 2024 and a $200 million settlement in 2023.
